Happy Thanksgiving Part II

November 22, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Happy Thanksgiving, especially to those of you who spent time with people you love. For those of you who decided to start shopping today let me just say that you’re everything that’s wrong with America (outside of the entire states of Florida and Ohio).

To the retailers open today, including Sears… I’m now going to go out of my way to avoid buying any Christmas presents at your stores. How DARE you require employees to be away from friends and family today. My favorite quote was from a Sears spokeswoman:

“Some people just can’t wait until Friday,” said Kirsten Whipple, a Sears spokeswoman. “Thanksgiving dinner is done and they have moved on.”

All I can say is what a crass fucking idiot.

Happy Thanksgiving…

November 21, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Why is everyone so stupid? I’m going to start running around screaming “but what about the children?” in response to everything because it’s becoming more and more obvious that some people believe the rest of us have no common sense or judgement. Someone call the wife and let her know I’ll be late as I’m going to go off and accomplish my life long goal of becoming a professional eater.

CNN is Part of the Propaganda Machine

November 16, 2007 · 6 Comments

Why should CNNthink or work at their reporting when they can just publish press releases from the companies they’re reporting on. Yesterday I went nuts about GM’s SUV hybrid winning the Green Car of the Year award at some bullshit auto show. There were a number of articles I saw this on, including this one from CNN.

So, I took the time to write the author of this article. To be honest, I wasn’t the most forgiving or generous reader and questioned the author’s integrity. That may have been unfair at the time, but upon reading his response I don’t think so anymore…

Thanks for writing. In response, please see a commentary I wrote back in June about large hybrid SUVs.

Why we need big hybrid SUVs

Article Here
Peter Valdes-Dapena
Producer/Writer
CNNMoney.com Autos

If you take the time to read this article, he basically states that the family with an SUV hybrid will save more gas than the one who converts to an Altima Hybrid. The thing he forgets to point out is that if you’re burning twice the amount of gas of course that will happen. Not once does he suggest that a family of four give up their SUV (hybrid or no) burning less than 22mpg for a station wagon that gets closer to 30mpg.

I suggest you read both articles. The author(s) obviously did not stop and think about what they were writing. I’ve linked his e-mail in under his name. Go ahead and write him too.

PR BS From Detroit (or Detroit really doesn’t care about hybrids)

November 15, 2007 · 1 Comment

Wow, the green car of the year gets a whopping 22mpg! Holy shit, that’s awesome. No wait, that SUCKS. Being proud of 22mpg is what drives up oil costs, screws up our economy, and leads to pollution. If GM wants to be proud of a hybrid truck, give me one that gets 40mpg. That would be impressive. Did GM give itself this award?!?

It’s time Congress ups not only the average, but the minimum, fuel economy for passenger cars in this country. And guess what, SUVs shouldn’t count as “work trucks.” We need to demand at least 30mpg out of every car. EVERY. SINGLE. CAR. on the road today. A bold move such as this would help us get off our dependence of foreign oil.

The real green car of the year? How about the Honda Civic hybrid? It looks and feels just like a Civic and gets 47mpg.

UPDATE: Read about it here too. It seems that everyone is covering this like it’s real news. It amazes me how lazy the media has become. If you spoon feed them a story, they cover it without really wondering about the facts. Bravo…

UPDATE 11/16: Yahoo is touting this bullshit AGAIN today. They tried to claim the SUV had a “low impact on the environment,” here. At this point, these news outlets are just lying to us.

NHL and Violence

November 15, 2007 · 1 Comment

Once again, journalists are trying to question why there is fighting in the NHL. Today, ESPN, that wonderful network that dropped the NHL and does little to promote it featured an article on its website covering the topic. There is a quick an easy answer to this… fighting is GOOD for hockey and the NHL.  Personalities, trash talking, fighting, etc. create buzz and exitement around the game.  Hockey is not just about goal scoring and speed, it’s a working man’s game.  It’s a game of hitting and strategy.  It’s a game where if you make a mistake, the other team makes you pay for it.

What’s bad for hockey and the NHL?  A few things…  higher scores, Gary Bettman, the instigator penalty for fighting, lack of television coverage in the U.S., and Gary Bettman.

More Idiocy from the Bush Administration

November 11, 2007 · Leave a Comment

The next election can’t come quick enough. Now, an intelligence official within the Bush Administration is trying to tell us we need to give up fundamental privacy such as anonymity. It’s high time we elect a government that is accountable, that actually answers to the people. Our privacy, our ability to walk through this world untracked is one of the things that makes America great. We need to protect liberty, even in the face of lessened security. Two ideas many seem to have forgotten include “Don’t Tread on Me,” and “Live Free or Die.”

I find it interesting that because some members of Generation Y have given up their privacy, that this official wants to take away mine. Isn’t that an individual choice?
