Big Yankees Weekend

So I made my first trip to the new Yankee Stadium this weekend and was lucky enough to see a Yankees/Red Sox game.  First, let me say that it was part of a great August sweep of the Roid Red Sox and included a David Ortiz press conference and a 15 inning walk off win.  Saturday’s game was a great 5-0 win with CC Sabathia taking a no-hitter deep into the 6th inning.

Overall I thought the new stadium was nice.  It lacks some of the intimacy of the old stadium but actually has good food choices coupled with wider walkways. I have two complaints, however:

1. There was too much going on during the game.  Too much music played too loudly, too many animations on the scoreboard, too many times I was told to cheer.  I really do wish the stadium was a little quieter with fewer gimmicks.
2. The bigger complaint is that I didn’t feel very welcome at the new stadium. I really felt like the attitude was that I should feel grateful to be at my team’s stadium. The staff seemed a little colder, the rules a little more rigid. I heard a new company is running security for the stadium. That might explain it.

I am looking forward to taking my son to the stadium when he gets older because the grass is just as green and the team is just as good. Let’s go Yankees!

First Manny

Now David Ortiz.  Boy the Red Sox are just showing that their World Series teams were tainted cheaters aren’t they??  This article made my day.

The Red Sox and Their Big Mouths

Now as a Yankees’ fan I’m a little pissed at how the team played this week against the rival Red Sox. They essentially rolled over and blew it. Fine. I’ll admit the Red Sox were the better team this weekend and move on. I’ve noticed though that every time the Red Sox beat the Yankees the organization from the players through the ownership start making snide comments.  Red Sox owner John Henry is trying to bait Mark Teixeira on twitter now.

Putting all the trash talk between fans aside, the owner should shut his mouth. What a classless organization the Red Sox are. Just remember John Henry, it’s not August yet. Your team will collapse, they always do.

Manny = Cheater

So, for all the Red Sox fans out there who have been giving Yankees’ fans a hard time.  Eat it!  Manny is on steroids and you know he didn’t just start last week. I’m guessing that Ortiz gave it up, thus the slump. 

Say what you will abou the Yankees but at least I know that during the World Series runs of the late 1990s that guys like Paul O’Neil or Tino Martinez weren’t juiced up. It’s nice to know that the Red Sox won their World Series through cheating.

A Simple Thought for the End of the Week

Nick Swisher Trade Analysis

The New York Times Bats blog is fantastic.  I love this article regarding the evolution of the Nick Swisher trade. Essentially the Yankees traded a bag full of balls for a guy that seems great in both the locker room and at the plate. I love that we’ve finally got someone who is going to play his way into the lineup everyday.

Good Bye, You Won’t Be Missed. Now Please Shut Up.

Just a short note to mention the retirement of loudmouth Curt Schilling. Please drift away and shut your pie hole. I never liked you and had zero respect for you. Go live a quiet life in relative obscurity. Go Yankees!
