National Asshole Year

As I type this, my beloved Yankees are getting the parade they deserve down the Canyon of Heroes.  I was there in 1998 and the parade is amazing and lovely. It brings to mind something my wife said to me yesterday as I left the house in my Yankees jacket, “so it today national asshole day?” She said this because she realized I was about to walk proudly out of the house and boast about my team’s 27th World Championship.

Logo of Legends and Champions

Speaking with my cousin, I realized it’s not one day, it’s now National Asshole Year.  What does this mean? It means I am going to enjoy it until the World Series winner is crowned next year. I am going to remind every Red Sox fan I see that the natural order to the universe has returned. I am going to be a Yankees fan when there is no baseball being played. I am going to boast about my team and make up for nine years of abuse and questions like, “how can you like THAT team,” and “don’t you think the Yankees should let someone else win,” and “the Yankees just buy talent, anyone could do that.”

So today I say to all non-Yankees baseball fans out there… EAT IT: the New York Yankees are WORLD CHAMPIONS.

World Series Bound

I’ve been neglecting this blog as of late.  I’m not entirely sure why, maybe I haven’t had as much to rant about. Either way, I’ve noticed that this blog is at its best when I rant or talk about sports. Today, I’m going to talk about sports.

While there are still four more games to win, the New York Yankees are World Series bound. While the Phillies are a great team and I’m expecting a tough series, I’d like to say to all of those anti-Yankees people out there:  SUCK IT. I LOVE that the Yankees have the highest payroll, the best players, and have just won their 40th AL pennant. I LOVE IT. I don’t ever want another team to win. EVER.

You see, that’s the difference between the Yankees and the rest of the AL. They get that the only thing worth anything is winning the world series. That’s it. I put up with losing in hockey and basketball so I’m entitled to a winning baseball team.

And guess what? If he continues to hit I’ll fall in love with A-Rod. Yes, the man I hated and thought was a big choker has been pretty damn good lately. If he keeps this up, I’ll sing his praises.  Why? Because Yankees fans love winners above all else.

Today I am very very very very happy.

Big Yankees Weekend

So I made my first trip to the new Yankee Stadium this weekend and was lucky enough to see a Yankees/Red Sox game.  First, let me say that it was part of a great August sweep of the Roid Red Sox and included a David Ortiz press conference and a 15 inning walk off win.  Saturday’s game was a great 5-0 win with CC Sabathia taking a no-hitter deep into the 6th inning.

Overall I thought the new stadium was nice.  It lacks some of the intimacy of the old stadium but actually has good food choices coupled with wider walkways. I have two complaints, however:

  1. There was too much going on during the game.  Too much music played too loudly, too many animations on the scoreboard, too many times I was told to cheer.  I really do wish the stadium was a little quieter with fewer gimmicks.
  2. The bigger complaint is that I didn’t feel very welcome at the new stadium. I really felt like the attitude was that I should feel grateful to be at my team’s stadium. The staff seemed a little colder, the rules a little more rigid. I heard a new company is running security for the stadium. That might explain it.

I am looking forward to taking my son to the stadium when he gets older because the grass is just as green and the team is just as good. Let’s go Yankees!

First Manny

Now David Ortiz.  Boy the Red Sox are just showing that their World Series teams were tainted cheaters aren’t they??  This article made my day.

A Simple Thought for the End of the Week

Yankees

Let’s Go Yankees!  Beat those Red Sox.

Trade Deadline

I always tell people who talk about the Yankees doing poorly and the Red Sox doing well, “it’s not August yet.”  It always seems that August is the month where the Yankees’ bewitch the Red Sox into losing and I love it.  This year, on the last day of July, the Red Sox shot themselves in the foot by trading problem child Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers.

I love watching the Red Sox self-destruct.

Another Reason to Hate the Red Sox

A recent article on RedSoxRUs.com (aka ESPN) shows yet another reason to hate these idiots. Apparently they don’t’ want the individuals to care. If we’re winning, who cares if you have a bad at bat? Apparently Youkilis does and Manny Ramirez took a swing at him because he got upset.

It all happened because Manny complained about Youkilis’ habit of throwing bats, helmets and other objects in the dugout when he has a bad at-bat, something that has become a constant practice,” the source said.

“Other players have told Youkilis in the past about the situation, which makes him look selfish and that he is more worried about each at-bat than about the team. If Boston is winning easily, there’s no reason to throw objects all over the dugout because of a bad at-bat.

“There was a meeting where the team let Youkilis know that many of his teammates were tired of his explosive reactions for each bad plate appearance. It became very bothersome … more so when the team is winning and it’s in first place. There’s not much room for individualistic attitudes.”

Are you kidding me? A guy cares enough to take each at bat seriously and push himself and you get pissed at him? A guy has some fire and you criticize him for it?  What a classless team.
